2021 AGM Recap

The 2021 AGM was held virtually on April 21 with 25 members and 1 guest in attendance.

The past year was unique with the COVID-19 pandemic causing shutdowns for several months.  Activities for our residents were canceled, guardians learned how to visit remotely, and board meetings were held virtually. Most importantly, our residents were healthy with no cases of COVID-19 and were busy and happy with the amazing staff caring for them.  

New House, Grant and Funding Applications Coordinating, and Safety Committees were established. In addition, the kitchen at Royal Palace received a much-needed update, the shingles at MiPlace were replaced and grant funding of almost $16,000 from the Government of Alberta’s Community Facility Enhancement Program was received.  This matching grant funding for MiPlace must be used to cover part of the costs for upgrades of the roof, windows, and doors.  The replacement of windows and doors is expected to be completed in 2021.

Fundraising was a challenge as our casino was scheduled in June and then moved to November.  Our casino was held days before the second shutdown and resulted in $78,477 being received.  The annual Grey Cup Pool, Pub Night and Comedy Festival fundraiser were not held this year.  However, documentation of the processes for Pub Night and Grey Cup Pool were completed which will streamline the organization of future events.

Work continues on the next CARE home, with the completion of the draft home design which was provided to the parents and guardians of potential residents. Next steps include the finalization of the floor plan with the assistance of a designer/architect, a Pre-development Application meeting with the City of Edmonton with the assistance of a designer/architect, completion of a formal set of blueprints by a designer/architect, and submission of blueprints to builders for quotations.
