2018 AGM Recap
The AGM was held on April 25, 2018 at the EVLES Special Needs Society.
For a number of years, there have been issues with the ramp going into Royal Palace during inclement weather. In 2017, the Government of Alberta approved the funding for the installation of a ramp cover. The City of Edmonton was not able to issue a building permit due to the location of the ramp and its proximity to the property line. Given the age of the home, there is a need for maintenance and upgrades. The request to the Government of Alberta includes an interior sprinkler system, the addition of a bathroom in the basement, and a security camera.
Jenn’s Place has been in operation since 2004 which means that a few appliances had reached the end of their useful life and were replaced. In addition, the basement flooded due to a sump-pump failure. The damage has been repaired and the home continues to be safe, secure and happy for the residents.
MiPlace enjoyed a new gazebo and solar safety lights in the backyard. In addition, the sprinkler system was repaired and the home went through a Non-Profit Energy Efficiency Transition (NEET) review and report. The parents and guardians will be reviewing the report and determining next steps.
CARE took a major step towards the next home. A property in the west end was purchased. It was decided that CARE would rent the existing home until there are sufficient funds to demolish and build a new home. There have been some issues with the tenants, but the Board is taking steps to resolve them.
Fund raising efforts resulted in just over $15,000 being raised from a Pub Night at Shenanigan’s, the Grey Cup Pool and donations. This would not be possible without the organizers, volunteers and contributors of these events.
A Committee has been formed to develop a longer term, comprehensive Fund Raising Plan for CARE. When finalized, the Plan will be presented to the Board for approval.
