2017 AGM Recap
The AGM was held on April 26, 2017 at the Elves Special Needs Society.
Over the last year, Royal Palace repaired and replaced some appliances, and replaced an entry and storm door. In addition, there were some plumbing repairs and kitchen tap replacement. The residents are enjoying a new flat screen television which was donated for the main living area. For a number of years, the ramp into the home has been an issue during inclement weather. The Government of Alberta approved the installation of a cover for the ramp with a maximum cost of $37,500. The work is currently being put to tender and once awarded it is expected to be completed in 2017. CARE continues to request, from the government, an interior sprinkler system and the addition of a bathroom in the basement.
Jenn’s Place converted to LED lighting, had some interior maintenance and painting, and obtained a new cable box.
MiPlace had a new rear drive pad poured and fencing installed. The rear of the home also had the side deck repaired and the back deck replaced. The interior of the home saw appliance replacement and painting.
In the past year, planning and preparations for a fourth home have been ongoing. The Board approved research on potential properties. The intent is to purchase a parcel of land and build a new home. Based on experience, the new build approach is favoured over purchasing an existing home which would require substantial renovations.
Funds totallng $123,800 were raised in 2017 from a Casino, the Grey Cup Pool and donations.
The Government of Alberta announced the Non-Profit Energy Efficiency Transition (NEET) grant program to provide funds to non-profit organizations to assist with assessment and upgrading of heating and lighting sources. CARE submitted applications for Jenn’s Place and MiPlace.
CARE celebrated its 25th Anniversary and held an open house at MiPlace in September to celebrate. This event was attended by Minister Schmidt and Edmonton City Councillor Andrew Knack. Guests were given the opportunity to tour the home.
